Abstract

Industry 4.0, known as the fourth industrial revolution, is a vision of smart factories developed based on intelligent cyber-physical systems. It greatly boosts the development of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies, which includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet-of-things (IoT) and cloud computing. These technologies immediately impact various sectors, such as manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, finance. However, when connected to the cyber world, cybersecurity risks become a key concern due to open systems with IP addresses creating more avenues for cyberattacks. Security challenges specific to Industry 4.0 are due to the enormous complexity in managing information, increased connectivity, decentralized control and real-time decision of manufacturing systems. Conventional cybersecurity techniques are not enough to protect users from cyberattacks, requiring higher-level methodologies. We are looking for effective machine learning solutions for detecting cyberattacks in IoT networks.
