Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a research topic that has attracted a number of researchers in Computer Science and Neuroscience in Vietnam. BCI enables human users to interact directly with machines and computers via EEG headsets and somehow their thoughts. That way of interaction is essential and effective in circumstances that conventional human-machine interactions fail to do so (e.g. ALS patients). In this talk, the speaker will present the latest research results of ongoing BCI projects such as building a large EEG database for Vietnamese BCI spellers and its applications to a Virtual reality BCI (VR-BCI) for stroke patient rehabilitation and a BCI mechanism to improve eye-tracking based speller. Other BCI research works in Vietnam will be covered to demonstrate the progress and provide audience the large picture of this research topic.

Nguyen The Hoang Anh was born in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, in 1986. He received B.Sc. from National University, Hanoi, Vietnam in Electrical Engineering in 2008 and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and M. E. in Modeling and Simulation from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, the USA in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He got his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 2020. Currently, he is a researcher at Vietnam – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Vietnam. Since December 2020, he has led VKIST – Nacentech Joint Lab of VKIST focusing on AI technologies that include Neuroscience and BCI. His research includes Neurotechnology, Deep Learning, and Image processing/Computer graphics.
