Professor Eryk Dutkiewicz is the Head of School of Electrical and Data Engineering University of Technology Sydney. He began his research career at the Overseas Telecommunications Corporation (OTC) Labs in Sydney in 1988 in the area of Asynchronous Transfer Mode systems. In 1990’s, while at OTC/Telstra and at University of Wollongong he conducted R&D into quality of service mechanisms for wired, wireless and mobile technologies. In 1999, he joined Motorola where he managed wireless research activities at Motorola Labs in Sydney. During that period he was also deeply involved in IEEE WiFi standards activities. From 2004 to 2008 he worked at University of Wollongong as a Professorial Fellow leading a wireless research activity on broadband wireless networks and wireless sensor networks. From 2008 to 2015 he worked at Macquarie University where he was the Director of the Macquarie University WiMed Research Centre and the Director of the Wireless Communications and Networking Laboratory. In November 2015 he joined University of Technology Sydney as the Head of School of Electrical and Data Engineering.
Professor Eryk Dutkiewicz has worked with many industry partners, including Motorola Inc., Freescale Semiconductor Inc., Agere Systems, Zarlink, Mircosemi, Infineon, Intel and Nokia. He has been the Principle Investigator on the 5G Dynamic Spectrum Sharing project (2014 – 2017) and Ubiquitous Communications for 5G Networks project (2018 – current) funded by Intel Corporation.
His current research interests include 5G communications and IoT systems and networks. He has strong collaboration links within wireless industry, including Intel, Nokia, Ericsson, CSIRO and with premier research institutions in Europe and Asia. He has a joint Professor appointment at Hokkaido University in Japan. He is the Co-Director of the UTS-VNU Joint Research Centres in Hanoi and in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He is a co-author of over 300 publications and 19 patent filings.
